Psychiatric Associates consists of four psychiatrists and our office staff. As Psychiatrists, we are M.D's who have specialty training in Psychiatry. In addition, all are Board Certified Psychiatrists and Fellows of the American Psychiatric Association. Our commitment is to provide the highest quality care which often combines psychotherapy with medication, if needed.
People may not know what we typically do in an initial psychiatric evaluation or consultation. Time allotted is one hour. To start with we want to know a little about who you are, with whom you live, what work you do, and what is your educational background.
Next is what led you to request this consultation. Then we would want to know the history of the problems or symptoms that led you to this consult. Were there precipitants, are you in treatment now and are you already taking medication? Has work or your responsibilities been affected?
Have you had alcohol or substance abuse problems? Do they play a role in the current problems?
We are interested in specific symptoms if they are present: depression, anxiety, phobias, hallucinations, paranoia, confusion, memory lapses. We would also ask of any past history of illness and past treatment including medications.
Family history is specifically reviewed as it is an important way to understand a person.
Your medical history and your current medications are also significant information. As the evaluation is ending we try to summarize our findings in a diagnosis which is then used to help guide treatment planning.
If indicated and agreed upon we would schedule a follow up appointment.
Please call for an initial evaluation. We see patients from age 17 and older. We accept many insurance plans. Some choose to pay privately without the use of insurance.
